Word of Warning for the girls

Postby rufio89 » Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:21 pm

Hi All,
I'm not looking for advice or support on this one, I just wanted to give out a word of warning to the girls - especially those of us who like to go out drinking.

Friday night, I went for a couple of drinks after work with a friend of mine. I had 3 glasses of wine over a couple of hours, and then I decided to go and meet someone else.

This other friend and I went to a bar, where we bought 1 drink. So i'd had a few drinks, I was a bit tipsy, but not drunk, and certainly sober enough to fully know what was going on and be fully aware of the situation. This was about 8pm, and this is where my memory cuts out. The rest of the story is what I have been told by my friend. He got a call from his girlfriend asking if he'd come and meet her, so he asked if I wanted to come. We had been chatting to this group of guys, and so I said that I wasnt up for a night out, and I was going to finish up my drink with these guys and then go home. He said I seemed fine, the guys seemed nice, so he left. (around 8.45)

Then around 9.30-10.00, I got a text from a different friend. and I rang him. He couldnt get any sense out of me, and so he rang a mutual friend, said he was worried about me and asked her to ring me. She rang me around 10.30. I was hysterical and crying and said that I'd got in a taxi with a guy who said he'd take me home, I realised we were going the wrong way, asked him what was going on, and he hit me. The taxi driver pulled over and told him to get out, but when he unlocked the doors I had gotten out and ran.

She stayed on the phone with me until I got home, but I was stuck in the middle of nowhere, I couldnt find a taxi, I didnt know where I was and I didnt know what was going on. I told her the story about what had happened when she first rang me, but she said 20 minutes later I couldnt remember what I'd said or where I was.

Eventually I got home, although not until I'd fallen and cut my shin open.

I've checked my bank, I checked my purse, and there's no way I bought more than 4 drinks.

There's some scary guys out there, is the word of warning for this story. I must have left my glass and someone put something in my drink. I dont know who it was, I dont remember anything that happened between 8pm and midnight, and this is all story that I've had filled in by other people.

I woke up in the morning terrified and bruised, but I was SO lucky. This story could have ended up very differently and I hate to think how the night could have ended if I hadnt got out of that taxi.

I thought I'd share my story in the hope that it makes at least one person keep a more careful eye on their drink than they would usually.

Look after yourselves.

Jesus. That's awful. Glad you're ok, Rufio.

I've been told the following tips since a friend's drink was spiked years ago: always keep your drinks on you, whether soft or alcoholic. If you're drinking from a bottle - put your finger over the top of it. If you're drinking from a glass, either put your hand over it or hold it against your chest rather than your stomach.

A similar thing also happened to me on friday night, I was at a house party and had my drink spiked.
No one really knows what happened to me, all we know is that I was found in town by my dad who had been driving around along with my mum and the police when one of my friends had called them to tell them I was missing.

There really are some horrible people out there, you here about things like this and never really think its going to happen to you but it does happen and can happen to absolutely anyone.
