Poor Cow :(

I don't really know where to put this and it may seem like a pathetic thing to be upset about, but i am really really upset.

I am obsessed with animals, especially big cats, to the point where I am getting married in a zoo outside a lion enclosure!!

Anyway, I have just read on The Sun website about zoo (i think) who feed live animals to Tigers. I know they have got to eat etc, and they obviously catch their own food in the wild, but I like to think ignorance is bliss.

They showed pictures of a poor cow being rolled out of a truck and described how it unsteadily got to it's feet and said it was brought down by the tigers within seconds. They also had a pic of the cow being dragged down by it's head.

It just really upset me, the poor cow. I know they are killed to feed animals in zoo's all over the world as well as humans, as are pigs, horses, rabbits, chickens etc. I just hate that this is some kind of tourist attraction and they chose the cow off of a 'menu'.

Whoopsie, You are definitely not pathetic I would have been exactly the same. I'm vegetarian and do think of that as a seperate thing to loving animals in general but I just cannot abide anything that intentionally hurts animals. And really there's no reason for it. If it was in a zoo then the big cats could have been fed meat - no need for live animals.

I know I am only agreeing with you here but hopefully just knowing you are not pathetic and it's a perfectly normal reaction may help a little.

No, i can't remember where it was but there were buses full of tourists taking photos. The buses had maybe chinese or japanese writing on i think.
I'm still upset about it. I'm glad i'm not the only one who would get affected by it. Don't feel so silly now.

Yes it was china, I saw it too.
The Chinese have a street with all resturants that specialise in dogs and also they eat turtles I actually had one of the soft shell turtles they use for the soup as a pet.

No, i'm not but i won't eat meat off the bone. If it vaguely resembles a carcas then i won't eat it. I probably should be tho cos i love animals.

You can still love animals and eat them . I do. My main concern with these kinds of things are how the animal is treated during its life and the life should be taken humanely. This is why i try to stick to organic and free-range eggs and meat. I have not looked up this zoo, and i am not a big fan of zoos anyway. I just worry about how this "live feeding" is handled. In some ways it seems good, i mean its more natural for the tigers but i can totally understand why it is upsetting for you. I also don't like the idea that it is done for entertainment purposes. I hope i have not offended anyone with this post....

Figured that was the case belbel. Thought i would look this zoo up before i said more on it. The chinese do tend to have less respect for animal life than we do. I watched this show once and it showed a dog being skinned alive. It was horrible just.... evil. They also showed tons of cats in cages being thrown off a lorry. Those cats were alive. Its sick. Also i seen a dolphin massacre that almost turned me vegi. I think, for me, its important to know whats going on in the world so i can make a difference. I mean i prob don't make a difference... I really hate fox hunting and would go to protests.

Anyway getting back to the cow, i seen the pictures and a video. It is cruel, they freaking dropped him out the back of a truck into the tigers den. The poor dude didn't have a chance. It did look quick though. I think the best thing that can be done, by us i mean , is to start one of those email petitions. Do you think it would make you feel better whoopsie, to feel like you are activity doing something about it? this maybe the activist in me. I get like that sometimes

I don't know really. Not that i am lazy or anything, but hundreds and thousands of activists fight for these kinds of things every day but it still happens. I'll definately sign petitions but, for me ignorance is bliss. I'd rather not know about it.
I do give to charities, and if i'm honest, more so to animal charities as animals don't have voices.
I saw a horrible programme once on the death penalty. They test levels of gas on rabbits before they send the human, who has been sentenced to death, in. What did the poor bunny do to deserve a practice run?
My 18 month old bunny had to be put to sleep cos of the evil, man made disease, myximatosis. Rabbits would eat crops so they made a killer virus. How evil. Evil. Evil.

Today there are pics of a zebra being dragged under water by a crocodile. Again, I know it is natures way, but why do people feel the need to photo document it??? It's not artistic.
