I'm going to bump this up because I've made a playlist on my iPhone of break-up songs, both cry it out and move on.

In no particular order;

Nobody Knows - The Tony Rich Project
Nothing Ever Happens - Del Amitri (not a normal break up song but about a week after my break up, I was in my friend's car and we sang along to this which helped)
Take A Bow - Madonna
Careful - Michelle Featherstone
Crying - Roy Orbison (an old one, but a good one)
On and On - Stephen Bishop (my Dad showed me this one)
I Never Loved You Anyway - The Corrs
Smile - Lily Allen
Not Big - Lily Allen
Get In The Ring - Guns N' Roses (I think they wrote it about being slandered in the media but it's surprising how many lyrics can relate to a break-up)
If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot
Fighter - Christina Aguilera
The Living Proof - Mary J. Blige (good for when you feel like you're starting to get through it)

Wow...my music tastes are odd.
Go to Glasgow at least once in your life and have a roll and square sliced sausage and a cup of tea. When you feel the tea coursing over your spice-singed tongue, you'll know what I mean when I say:
'It's good to be alive!'"

- Billy Connolly

I think "The Show Must Go On" by Queen is a satisfying one for this situation as well.

Loving The Sound - The Overtones

Might be because I'm biased as I love The Overtones, but I reckon its a brilliant break up song.

Usually changes throughout the day, but I never like the slow, sad music. I like something that's more 'screw you' and energetic :) Perhaps some metal or hip hop.

This is not a breakup somg at all and not related to a break-up but I thought I would share the story anyway: I was on a work trip last year, a sort of "learning journey" with reps from a number of different companies. It was coming to the end of the trip we were all exhausted, bad mood, sick of each other's company and of the constant rain, missing home, families, spouses etc. And there was one person in the group who did not stop causing trouble. In short the mood on the minibus we were all on was horrendous, you could have cut the tension with a knife. After 45 mins driving in silence, the bus driver stuck on a CD. Monthy Python's "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life"! At first a few people started singing along quietly, then a few more... by the end everyone on the bus was singing along at the top of their voices, whistling and laughing our heads off :) cheered us all up no end!

Everybody now!

"Life's a piece of sh*t, when you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see its all a show, keep 'em laughin as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you

And...
Always look on the bright side
of life...
(Whistle)

Always look on the right side
of life...

C'mon Brian, cheer up!"
not if you were the last dandy on earth
